Brian has more than 40 years’ experience in investigation and design of major dams, weirs and hydraulic structures.He has been the project director and project manager for a large number of feasibility studies, design reviews, siteinvestigations and detail design consultancies for major dams and weirs including the direction and co-ordination ofall specialist services including geotechnical investigations, dambreak studies, hydraulic model studies, numerical analyses, preparation ofdam safety emergency plans and risk assessments. He has worked within a number of dam alliance projects and has provided advice during the construction phase of both “hard dollar” and D & C projects.
He retired from NSW Public Works in 2005 and now works as a private consultant specialising in peer review work fordam safety reviews and dam upgrade designs as well as participating in dam risk assessments. He has a special interest in the structural aspects of dam engineeringincluding spillways, post tensioned anchoring and numerical modelling of concrete dams. He has been a member of various ANCOLD working groups that developed new guidelines for design of dams for earthquakes, risk assessment and consequence categories.
Brian has just retired from his long-time position as Chairman of the NSW Dams Safety Committee (the dam safety regulator in NSW)
